News: Esterbreathe, the technical solution from FFP

FFP Packaging Solutions announces Esterbreathe, the latest development in packaging film for extended shelf life. FFP is the leading independent flexible packaging converter, with a strong position in printed flexible packaging and lidding film, where their Esterpeel® brand is the market leader.

The Esterbreathe range is a tailored permeability solution for fresh produce. Taking into account the product life objectives of the packer and retailer, FFP measures the Oxygen requirements of the produce, developing a film with optimum permeability to maximise shelf-life performance without the need for gas flushing.

The key to the success of Esterbreathe is that it does not rely on any one technique to produce the packaging materials. FFP has developed the expertise that allows the use of particular film types, laser microperforation and other sophisticated (and secret) methods to achieve the result. Esterbreathe is as much about a deep understanding of product requirements as it is about packaging materials.

Esterbreathe packaging is available for VFFS, HFFS and tray lidding, and can be specified either clear, plain or printed in full colour.

One of the first ranges of fresh produce to benefit from Esterbreathe has been the new Waitrose fresh produce offering from Prep Direct. Managed by Adare, who approached FFP for the Esterbreathe solution, the Prep Direct range features 11 products, from Chantenay carrots and new potatoes right through to mushroom kebab based products, and required a variety of packaging types and Esterbreathe solutions: various tray types include polypropylene, C-PET and aluminium foil. The two-ply laminate film was required in both printed and plain form, and. All the films were supplied with an antimist coating to enhance on-shelf appearance.
