FFP lidding film packaging - esterseal
FFP have launched Esterseal, a resealable pack that has been classified as ‘Recycle’ by OPRL and can be collected in its entirety through the existing waste collection system.

FFP have wholeheartedly committed to the development of more sustainable materials and pack formats that can help to reduce the negative impact that some materials can have on our environment. Esterseal, part of FFP’s award winning Reseal & Recycle product range, has been developed to offer an immediate packaging solution that utilises current resources and can be completely interchangeable with current packaging formats.

Currently, the majority of local authorities in the UK do not collect flexible films at kerbside, therefore any packs with a film lid require the consumer to remove the lid prior to recycling the tray and dispose of it in their general waste, which is then sent to landfill or for incineration. With the launch of Esterseal, FFP have developed a solution that will ensure zero waste is sent to landfill whilst offering increased consumer convenience. The Esterseal film is not detached from the tray, allowing the consumer to put the entire pack into their pots, tubs and trays kerbside waste stream and giving it the classification of ‘Recycle’ by OPRL.

Throughout the design process, FFP worked closely with Viridor to ensure that the entire pack would survive the sorting process in order to be separated ready for recycling. The test was passed with no drop off in sorting rate versus standard trays.

With the launch of Esterseal, FFP have addressed an extremely complicated and significant environmental issue with an immediately available solution that can run easily on existing lines without impacting on manufacturing speeds. Esterseal is also cost neutral compared to existing reclose solutions.

Other benefits include:

Full pack opening – brings reseal technology to a wider range of market sectors.

Multiple Re-closings – assists in maintaining product freshness and supports the practicality of multi-portion packs.

High speed processing on standard lines – Esterseal has a wide operating window and minimal set-up. In most cases, existing tooling can be used with high speed application.

Packaging reduction – Suitable for replacing PET clip on lids on pots, significantly reducing pack weights and carbon footprint.

FFP is delighted to bring to market a solution that can make a positive and immediate impact on the environment utilising existing waste streams. FFP is a fully BRC accredited site with AA rating and are approved by all of the UK retailers for printed flexible packaging.
