Constantia FFP have led the way in ovenable packaging putting the first fully printed ovenable bag on supermarket shelves.

Estercook was launched in 2013 and has since driven innovation in the sector, lifting sales, providing outstanding convenience for consumers and reducing the risk of contamination in the kitchen, as raw protein stays separate from everything else and the need for the consumer to touch the product is removed. It has created a whole new process from the supermarket shelf, to the oven, to the table without the product once having to be touched.

Estercook has changed the shape of the market for ovenable packaging, pushing the boundaries of expectation and positioning Constantia FFP firmly as industry experts in this field.

Testing and Compliance

Estercook is fully tested and verified to conform to food safety standards. With more than 30 years’ experience in high temperature applications, we have a proven route to a rigorous approval process for all of our packaging.

Everything we manufacture must comply with the Food Contact Framework Regulation (EC) 1935:2004. All of our Materials, inks & adhesives conform to all current European food contact legislation for use as a dual-ovenable direct food contact material.

High temperature packaging is subjected to additional testing and two initial types of tests are undertaken: Specific Migration Limit (SML) tests, which test specific materials in migration, and Overall Migration Limit (OML), which tests the completed laminate. All tests are conducted at high temperatures providing a ‘worst case’ for both migration and chemical decomposition products.

Only when all testing is complete is a structure approved for use in your packaging.

Campylobacter and ovenable packaging

Estercook can provide real benefits in the battle against Campylobacter contamination, a leading public health issue.

Constantia FFP’s Estercook Roast-In-The-Bag packaging presents a physical barrier to the Campylobacter bacterium. Raw meat is contained within the pack from the factory production line all the way through the supply chain until it comes out of the consumer’s oven, cooked and ready to eat.

Sustainability

Ovenable packaging can provide significant lightweighting opportunities which in turn can see a substantial reduction in volume of packaging and in turn carbon emissions. Many ready-meals currently on the market are presented in a tray, with a film lid and cardboard sleeve. By replacing all of this packaging with one ovenable pouch, it is estimated that a weight saving of 83% can be achieved.
