Dovecote Park are suppliers of the very finest British beef, veal and venison for the retail, fine dining and food service sectors nationwide. Their own brand, The Juicy Meat Company, focuses on providing top quality meat, aiming at busy consumers who have limited time to spend scratch cooking but are after the home cooked experience and place great value on top quality food and animal welfare.

Dovecote approached FFP Packaging Solutions, market leaders in ovenable packaging, to develop a light-weight, ovenable solution for their new Low, Slow and Easy range of meats. The solution needed to preserve their brand integrity and portray their values of high quality, responsibly sourced products but also reduce the forecasted volume of packaging required. By addressing both the weight and volume of a standard packaging solution, the aim was to create a low carbon footprint and to align with their commitment to produce environmentally conscious products.

The original plan included a 3-step process, the FFP alternative pouch reduced this down to 2 and gave a packaging weight reduction / saving of 80%.

FFP provided Dovecote with a PET/PET ovenable pouch that was printed using their high-quality Platinum Print. The pouch design was very dark with soft highlights creating an elegant and sophisticated appearance. There were a number of challenges to creating the look and feel that Dovecote required, primarily as they printed out of the CMYK set, so the background needed to be a very dense Black fading to soft Highlights in the images. FFP’s colour management team achieved the desired effect by running all 4 colours through the whole design to give a good density but keeping everything soft in the lighter areas.

The result was eye-catching packaging with stylish shelf appeal. This perfectly reflected the brands values and was rewarded at the 2020 EFIA Print Awards, one of the most prestigious award evenings in the flexo calendar and host to the brightest and best across the flexo packaging industry. The Dovecote Juicy Meat Company packaging took home an outstanding 4 awards, with the Large Beef Easy Cook Pouch going on to win the top prize of the event; the coveted ‘Best In Show’ award.

The pouches were manufactured on FFP’s own pouch machines in house at their Northamptonshire facility. Following recent investment in a second pouch line, FFP have the capacity and capability to offer customers a full range of pouches and bags including; Doy, K-Seal, V-Seal and two, three or four sided bags with a full spectrum of finishing options.
